About the Re-purposing Project

This is the first project from Writing 220. For this project, we took something we wrote from a different context (e.g. a paper from a class, a journal entry, etc.) and created a new text from it. The new text needed to have a new argument and be written in a different genre. In my case, I repurposed a journal entry from last summer. In this entry, I contemplated the idea of humanity versus the limits the laws of nature put on it.

From this, I obtained the idea of "science versus the humanities." As you may know, there is an ongoing debate in higher education. There has been questioning about the how we value the humanities and sciences. Are they being valued equally or unequally, fairly or unfairly? How should we be valuing them?

My repurposing project is an article written in the style of The Atlantic. In it, I argue that the sciences and the humanities should be valued equally. My target audience is college students, particularly those still deciding on what to major in. I want to let these students know that it’s okay to study what interests them. Both the sciences and the humanities can provide skills and knowledge that is personally and professionally enriching.
